Russian Navy Day - on July, 31

Russia celebrates the Russian Navy Day on July, 31 2016. In honor of this day the city government are glad to present some colorful events which you might enjoy.
The regular Russian Navy was created at the initiative of Peter the Great in 1696 while Russians had a war against Ottoman Empire, After the Azov fortress was taken, at Peter I’s request the Boyar Duma understood the vital importance of a navy for successful warfare and passed a decree on commencing the construction of a regular navy on 20 October 1696. This date is considered the official birthday of the regular Russian Navy.
Traditionally on this day in the Neva go warships. Some of them may visit the tourists. You can see a parade of military ships, submarines, and civilian vessels down the Neva. In honor of the Russian Navy Day colorful fireworks meet skies close-up with Peter and Paul Fortress.
